Meet Chris Wharton

25 years building on the internet. Now helping serious small businesses look and operate like premium brands.

I’ve been building on the internet since most people didn’t know what it was.

I started my professional career as a web designer, before the responsive web was a thing. I moved on to become a designer and then studio manager at an agency working on some of the biggest brands in the UK and globally. Coutts & Co Private Bank, Aston Martin, IKEA, Schroders, Worldpay and dozens more. I project managed the RBS Coutts rebrand going live at midnight on New Year’s Eve 2009. Co-ordinated a global multi-website roll out for Grant Thornton. I worked alongside Stella McCartney’s team on a Coutts campaign. I trained 80 RBS employees at a time on digital systems when webinars were a brand new tool.

Then Jude and I went out on our own. We set up 2nd Floor Designs Ltd in 2010 as a boutique web and branding agency and we started building other new tech to help push the web and drive it forward. MeanMenu was one of the first responsive navigation solutions for websites. CookieCuttr was one of the first cookie consent tools on the web (sorry!). We got deep into conversations with CloudFlare about acquiring CookieCuttr before the ICO did an about turn on consent and killed the momentum. We founded a WordPress theme brand called MeanThemes, became Elite Authors on Envato with thousands of customers and hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales and eventually sold the business.

Ready Steady Websites® grew out of all of that. A website subscription platform helping small businesses get online properly without paying agency prices. Hundreds of clients later we understand small business from the inside out.

Now I use 25 years of brand and digital expertise to help established small businesses look and operate like premium brands.
