Plugin of the week this week is Remove query strings from static resources.

What is it?

It isn’t the most exciting of names, but Remove query strings from static resources does exactly what it says. It removes any ? or & query strings from your HTML source e.g. website.com/assets/css/my-css?ver=1.0.0.

Why do you need it?

If you are concerned about page speed, as you know I am this plugin will help with that. Website speed is affected by a number of things including using static assets, if these are query stringed they cannot always be cached (saved locally on the website visitors machine/device). Or rather the page speed checker and the browser does not necessarily know they are cached and requests a fresh version of the file every time even though the browser may already have a local copy it can use.

CSS and JavaScript is often query stringed in WordPress if the recommended enqueue function has been used. This plugin optimizes that process.

How much does it cost?

Remove query strings from static resources is absolutely free.
